Our laser cutting capabilities

Elimold’s laser cutting service can cut complex designs to your specifications. Whether you need one piece or thousands. Send us your DXF or DWG files for a seamless transition to our CNC control.
No matter what material you need, we can keep turnaround time short. Our newest machine has 10,000 watts of power and a table size of 72 x 144, and can cut thicker materials with tighter tolerances than most older lasers. Lasers can hold tighter tolerances on thicker materials than other cutting processes, eliminating secondary operations to clean up the edges of parts, saving you time and money. We cut steel up to 1.0 inches thick, stainless steel and aluminum up to 0.75 inches thick, and brass and copper at much higher thicknesses than all lower wattage lasers.
To ensure we can provide the highest quality laser cut parts, we offer different laser cutting technologies, including CO2 and fiber, each specifically matched to different materials to provide consistent results.
Regardless of material, quantity or size, all parts have a dimensional accuracy of ±0.13mm, a minimum feature size of 1x1mm, and a minimum laser kerf of 0mm. The maximum material thickness that our laser cutting stations can handle is 25.4mm before the laser kerf becomes too large.

A switch to laser cutting can also save effort and lower costs during your prototyping phase by giving you a cleaner, more efficiently fabricated part.

Automotive Uses

Many parts in the automotive industry are manufactured using sheet metal laser cutting techniques. Bumpers, hoods, roofs, fenders, doors, seating frames, and many other modern vehicles rely on laser cutting services.
Putting vehicles through their paces during pre-production testing has never been easier than with cost-effective laser-cut parts. Any modifications to design can quickly be dialed in on the laser cutting machine. This ability to make accurate off-the-cuff changes helps when creating batches of a specific part with multiple trim variations.

Uses in Aerospace

Aircraft, much like automobiles, require a high degree of precision when fabricating parts for their industrial use. Intricate and complex components of aircraft are easily created with laser cutting equipment. The powerful lasers are equipped to perfectly cut strong metals and alloys used in flight equipment.

Laser Cutting in the Energy Industry

Sheet metal and tubular components for solar, wind, oil, and gas applications can be laser cut for use in the energy industry. Laser cutting services make parts for the energy industry equipment repair quick and simple. Fast repairs might mean all the difference in efficiencies within such a vital field.

What is laser cutting?

Laser cutting is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses a laser beam to cut parts from a sheet. However, the laser beam does not cut or melt, but rather vaporizes the material using its intense laser energy, which prevents the material from catching fire or degrading. Laser cutters are numerically controlled by computers (hence the name CNC), which allows them to produce any 2D part (changing the command will change the shape) and also allows them to provide high precision for thousands of parts.

What are the Benefits of Laser Cutting?

Laser sheet metal cutting is the first step in the sheet metal fabrication process that involves high-powered CNC laser cutting a variety of materials for many different types of applications in several industries.

  • Laser cutting is more precise and less energy-consuming than plasma cutting, but it has an upper threshold on the thickness of the material being cut.
  • Laser cutting is one of the most precise forms of sheet metal processing, easily being able to create complex shapes of any size and shape.
  • Laser cutting can eliminate the need for machining, enabling clients to save money.
  • Lasers do not require contact with the metals they are manipulating, which helps to minimize wear and tear on the parts.
  • Laser cutting is used in combination with sheet metal bending and forming. in the metal fabrication process.

At Elimold, we provide high-quality CNC laser cutting services on a wide range of material for most industries.

Laser Cutting vs. Waterjet Cutting

While laser cutting is one of the most effective methods for making complex and delicate 2D parts, the process also has some limitations, and certain design specifications are better suited to waterjet cutting. When knowing when to use laser cutting or waterjet cutting, it is important to consider the size of the part being produced and, most importantly, the thickness of the material. For thicker metal cutting, waterjet cutting is the standard machining operation rather than using laser cutting services due to its industrial strength, precision, and power capacity.

Another major difference between laser cutting and waterjet cutting is cost. Laser cutting services tend to be more cost-effective for smaller parts and projects, while waterjet cutting services are more cost-effective for larger parts and projects. Laser cutting machines require less maintenance and power to operate than waterjet cutting machines.
