Introduction and Properties of PPE Material

Polyphenylene oxide (PPE) is a thermoplastic, linear, amorphous polyether produced by the oxidative condensation polymerization of 2,6-dimethylphenol in the presence of a copper amine complex catalyst. It exhibits excellent chemical resistance to water, most salt solutions, acids, and alkalis. PPE polymers have extremely low hygroscopicity and are unaffected by repeated water contact. Therefore, it possesses good electrical insulation properties and dimensional stability over a wide range of humidity and temperature.
Furthermore, PPE possesses excellent electrical properties, superior acid and alkali resistance, and can be processed using conventional extrusion and injection molding equipment. Although PPE is resistant to a variety of chemicals, it is susceptible to the attack of certain hydrocarbons. PPE exhibits excellent dimensional stability, low hygroscopicity, and high mechanical and dielectric strength. This plastic material is rarely used in its pure state. It is mainly blended with other polymers (such as PS, PBT, or PA) or modified by adding additives such as glass fibers.
