What is Brass?
Brass generally refers to an alloy composed of copper and zinc; therefore, brass is also a general term for various copper-zinc alloys. The composition of these alloys varies depending on the zinc content and the addition of other alloying elements (such as lead, aluminum, and iron). Brass composed of only copper and zinc is called ordinary brass, while alloys composed of two or more elements are called special brass.
Brass is economical, durable, and possesses excellent heat and corrosion resistance, making it an ideal alternative to many other more expensive metals and alloys. Brass has a low coefficient of friction, naturally antibacterial properties, and does not produce sparks, therefore it is often used to manufacture components for special environments.

FAQs
Yes, brass has a low coefficient of friction and excellent machinability, making it an excellent machining material. It allows for precise cutting and shaping, making it ideal for machining intricate and complex parts.
Brass is generally easier to machine than aluminum. Compared to aluminum, brass is less likely to stick to the tool, allowing for faster machining speeds at lower power. Brass's low coefficient of friction and excellent chip-forming properties reduce tool wear and improve accuracy during machining. C360 brass is a highly machinable brass alloy, hence it is often referred to as free-machining brass.
Yes, we can provide samples according to your requirements. Sample making allows you to verify dimensions, quality, and surface finish before placing a large order.
We offer a variety of surface treatments for brass parts, including polishing, sandblasting, nickel plating, gold plating, and brushing. We can also provide custom surface treatments according to your requirements.
Absolutely. We handle orders from single-piece prototypes to mass production and can flexibly scale up to your project needs while maintaining consistent quality.
Lead time is typically 7 to 20 working days, depending on the complexity, quantity, and surface finish requirements of the parts. We also offer expedited services for urgent projects.
Yes. Elimold has extensive experience in machining brass into high-precision parts with complex geometries. Our advanced CNC equipment and experienced team ensure consistent product quality, even for complex or multi-functional parts. Furthermore, we offer manufacturing design consulting services to help clients optimize part designs for cost-effective production.
When comparing costs, consider the specific materials required for your project, as the cost of machining brass can vary. Other factors, such as machining difficulty, heat treatment, and electrical conductivity, should also influence your material selection.
Yes, brass parts can be heat-treated to enhance their properties. This treatment can improve strength, hardness, and dimensional stability. However, it may reduce thermal and electrical conductivity.
Due to the higher material cost of brass (it is a copper-zinc alloy), potential tool wear, longer machining times, and the need for additional finishing processes if the application requires a high-quality surface finish, CNC machining of brass is often more expensive than metals such as aluminum and low-carbon steel. However, its unique properties and aesthetics make it ideal for certain applications.
