What is PSU (Polysulfone)?
Polysulfone (PSU) is a translucent, amber-colored plastic with a slightly light brown tint, due to its amorphous molecular structure. This material is known for its high temperature resistance and excellent mechanical properties. This thermoplastic is easily precision machined. Because of its resistance to hot water and steam, it is used in medical and food processing applications.
In addition, polysulfone can withstand extreme air temperature conditions, with a working temperature range of -100-150℃, a long-term use temperature of up to 160℃, and a short-term use temperature of up to 190℃. While it is resistant to mineral acids and bases, it is unfortunately not resistant to aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons.
Furthermore, the properties of this material can be modified by adding various materials. Glass fiber reinforcement and modification can significantly improve the wear resistance of polysulfone composites (PSU/PSF). Polysulfone can also be compounded with materials such as ABS, polyimide, polyether ether ketone, and fluoroplastics to create modified polysulfone products, primarily to improve its impact strength, elongation, solvent resistance, environmental resistance, processing performance, and electroplating properties.

Maintains structural integrity and performance at continuous use temperatures up to 180°C (356°F), with a heat distortion temperature exceeding 175°C.
Hydrolysis and Steam Resistance
Possesses unique resistance to repeated steam sterilization (autoclaving) and hot water corrosion, with very low water absorption, preventing degradation or swelling.
High Mechanical Strength
Exhibits excellent rigidity and creep resistance at high temperatures, ensuring long-term stable operation under load without deformation.
Excellent Chemical Resistance
Resistant to a wide range of acids, bases, and polar solvents, making it suitable for harsh chemical environments.

Low-Temperature Deburring Surface Treatment Process
Low-temperature deburring is a method that improves the surface quality and appearance of components. Due to the lubricating properties of PSU material, this technique can easily process PSU parts after CNC machining. In some cases, a smooth surface is crucial for certain parts. Low-temperature deburring removes excess material, burrs, or irregularities from the surface of the part by exposing it to extremely low temperatures, making it brittle. The part is then placed in a polycarbonate medium to eliminate all unevenness, resulting in a fine surface while maintaining its original structure and physical properties.
FAQ
PSU is a semi-crystalline polymer with excellent resistance to alkalis, electrolytes, and mineral acids. It is also easy to process, allowing for relatively easy achievement of precise tolerances.
For high-temperature applications or applications involving contact with hot water and steam, PSU can be used as an alternative to polycarbonate or acrylate.
