What is polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a high-performance fluoropolymer composed of carbon and fluorine atoms. It is a synthetic polymer made from tetrafluoroethylene monomers. PTFE is renowned for its excellent heat and cold resistance, allowing for long-term use in a temperature range of -180 to 260°C. This synthetic polymer possesses excellent chemical resistance, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance, making it widely used in industrial and consumer applications. It is resistant to acids and alkalis and is virtually insoluble in any solvent. Furthermore, it exhibits excellent lubricity and is therefore used as a lubricant.
