Perfect sealing depends on the correct compression ratio of the O-ring. We verify that your groove dimensions match the cross-section and hardness of the specific O-ring. We typically recommend optimizing the corner radius at the bottom of the groove; a larger radius facilitates machining with standard ball end mills, thus shortening the machining cycle without affecting the sealing surface area.
Deep Well Drift Compensation
When designing large distribution manifolds, engineers often place fluid passages close to the outer wall or bolt holes. In deep hole drilling (depth greater than 10 times the diameter), drill bit drift is unavoidable. We calculate the expected drift based on the material and depth and provide recommendations on safe wall thickness margins to ensure the drill bit does not penetrate the sidewall or damage the threaded hole.
Thread Engagement Length
For hydraulic and fluid interfaces, excessively deep threads increase unnecessary machining time and the risk of tap breakage. We recommend that, for materials such as stainless steel, the thread depth should not exceed 2 to 2.5 times the nominal diameter. This provides maximum holding force while allowing us to use robust, rigid tapping cycles on Brother and Mazak machining centers, thus maintaining your unit cost competitiveness.
